ACHIQUINE (in love) represents ancestral songs advocating love, an ancestral ritual that accompanies wedding celebrations among the mountain tribes, the Jbalas. The bride joins her husband at the village mosque, before they are escorted to the wedding venue. Along the way, the escorts raise their voices in a special three-stage chant, with the sounds of ghaita and tbel. These are invocations, incantations and prayers of abundance and prosperity that are carried to the married lovers, the « Aachiquines ».
The fruit of a residency led by Djebli Club with young artists, dedicated to this age-old mystical practice, which enabled the « Achiquine » chant to be recorded for the first time in high quality, to preserve this priceless treasure and present it live on stage.
