By inviting the artist for whom the word « talent » is conjugated in the plural, Efest, in collaboration with
Dar Eyquem, continues to produce and create original works. A self-taught musician and songwriter, Hindi Zahra revisits genres without ever imposing boundaries. Dedicated to the crossover of sounds between traditional acoustic instruments and electronic production, the creative residency will take place in November at Dar Eyquem, a cultural institution dedicated to collaboration between foreign and Tunisian artists. Hindi Zahra will be accompanied by two Efest regulars, Tunisian musician, composer and producer Skander Besbes and multi-instrumentalist and arranger Saifeddine Helal. The final result will be presented in the form of a 50-minute performance during the Electron Libre evenings at the Acropolium de Carthage.
Hindi Zahra
A mix of folk ballads, urban soul, rock and desert blues, Hindi Zahra’s music bears the hallmark of crossbreeding and nomadism. The Prix Constantin 2010 winner knows no boundaries.
Born in Morocco, of Berber origin, her voice is full of emotion. Her music is an ancestral blues, an original jazz, an oriental vibe, where she speaks of love, self-affirmation, the world and what her encounters inspire in her.
Born into a family of artists that includes, among its most famous, the group Oudaden, she was introduced to traditional music, Dylan’s folk and Marley’s reggae, because all the world’s music resonates around her.
A self-taught musician and songwriter, Hindi Zahra is a multi-talented artist, so much so that the American magazine The Wire described her as the spiritual daughter of Django Rheinhardt and Billie Holiday. Suffice to say, she’s on the road to a great musical story.
Skander Besbes
Skander Besbes, aka SKNDR, is a Tunisian musician, composer and producer. A pioneer of the electronic music scene for some twenty years, he has more recently been working as artistic director and accompanist for emerging artists such as Yuma.
In addition to being one of the initiators of the Tunisian electro scene, Skander is also guitarist and machine operator for Speed Caravan – an instrumental group blending rock, electro and Arabo-Andalusian music. With a keen eye for detail and sound aesthetics, Skander talks about his career and his beginnings in electro.
Saifeddine Helal
Saifeddine Helal was born in Tunis, at the heart of North African culture. Percussionist, composer, arranger, bandleader and producer, he masters a wide variety of percussion instruments, which he uses to combine traditional Middle Eastern and North African rhythms with more contemporary jazz, pop and electro.
