RESIDENCE RESULTS THEATRE AND IMMERSIVE TECHNOLOGY – E-FEST Camp 2025
Using the show « Gouna » (Waiting Room), by actor and director Frahat Debbech, as a starting point, this installation questions immersive approaches to theater.
Presented to the public with VR headsets during the 2025 edition of the E-FEST project, « Inner Gouna » invites visitors to a multi-dimensional experience. It awakens and enriches the imaginations of the artistic and technical teams from the Centre des Arts Dramatiques et Scéniques de Médenine taking part in the residency, offering them time to experiment with live performance hybridization techniques, thus opening up new horizons for their creations. For the audience, it’s a singular immersion, an intimate journey to the heart of the stage, where proximity to the actors transforms the spectator into a privileged witness. It’s a playful way of extending the theatrical space, making it accessible to those who don’t usually go through its doors.
The play « Gouna » (Waiting Room) deals with the state of breakdown in our society, the question of departure and the reasons that drive individuals to leave their territories for a hopeful elsewhere. Why does a person decide to leave or isolate themselves from their community? What are the events and motives that lead a person to conclude that no other alternative remains?
By capturing 360° moments of play from the show in different spaces, and using 3D scanning and modeling of sets as well as sound spatialization, this artistic collaboration offers an immersion that invites us to plunge body and gaze into the heart of the set.
