FEST 2011 PROGRAMMING
Diversity would be one of the most appropriate adjectives to define the expectations and hopes nurtured by all Tunisians since the events of January: political diversity, diversity of cultures and practices, and diversity of opinions. Since its inception, the FEST festival has set itself the goal of highlighting this diversity in the field of digital arts, offering each spectator the opportunity to experience the diverse, the unknown, a face-to-face encounter with the other, something we have always defended with passion and persistence. This fifth edition of the festival will be no exception to this founding rule.
Among this year’s new features, the FEST is opening with a contemporary dance and electroacoustic music show, Subliminal, by Spanish artist ARBOL, and dancer and choreographer Victoria Macarte. They will be accompanied by violinist Sara Fontan and cellist Bjort Runarsdottir. Subliminal is a multimedia performance in which sound, movement and light interact to create a dialogue between music and movement.
Another new feature is the reinforcement of our educational action through the organization of workshops. A first introductory workshop for young audiences, on the techniques of creating and mixing images in real time, will be led by digital artist Haythem Zakaria; a second, led by the English duo Addictive TV, will deal with live video mixing; and a final one, led by Christian Delécluse, on processing software.
The FEST, from June 23 to 26, 2011, continues to occupy Carthage Cathedral « Acropolium ». During the day, the public will be able to attend workshops free of charge, as well as discover this year’s installations. At night, the Cathedral will be decked out for the evening with video scenography by Haythem Zakaria and Julien Vulliet. Diversity will also be very much in evidence on the music scene, with sixteen concerts programmed over four days, mixing different genres of electronic music within a single evening – the trademark of the FEST, as Skander Besbes puts it!
