– Objective: Videomapping is a technique using video projection to create illusory perceptions of architectural elements. This process is at the heart of many sound and light shows, and requires the use of specific modeling and animation tools.
This workshop will teach the skills needed to create videomapping, using free and open-source tools.
Touchdesigner software is used worldwide by artists and programmers to create digital performances and installations. Beaux-Arts students will learn how it works, from the basics to advanced videomapping techniques. Blender software will also be taught to model architecture in 3D and apply textures, import a 3D model into Touchdesigner, and create real-time generative textures.
The fundamentals of lighting will be covered, as well as how to parameterize a Shader to reproduce a material realistically, and the notion of interactivity, with audio analysis techniques for the creation of music-reactive content.
Covering both content creation and technical implementation, the workshop will culminate in the concrete realization of an architectural videomapping project, using the amphitheater of the Casablanca School of Fine Arts as the subject of projection and exercise.
